Children decide on their education

Tirana, 3 June 2015 - Today for the first time in their lives, children from all schools of Tirana publicly voted for their education!

The Deputy Minister of Education, Regional Education Directorate and the Honorary of Albanian National Child Helpline-ALO 116 Hueyda El Saied joined in the premises of Albanian Parliament over 500 children and teachers in the public event "I VOTE" and together set priorities on education and the school that they want to have.

The event "I VOTE" constituted an important moment not only to make known the importance of education but as well to urge all policymakers to fulfill their promises to guarantee children’s right to education. Through this massive public voting, the children demonstrated to Albanian Parliamentarians that their voice should be their priority in any reform or initiative they undertake.

All children’s demands will be presented in September to the Parliament, Ministry of Education and Sports and 61 new mayors across the country.

This public event was organized in the framework of the annual global initiative Global Action Week, “Education for All”, which aims to bring to the attention of policymakers their obligation to guarantee the universal right to a free public compulsory education.
