Albanian announces the winner of the national teacher prize 2018

Four winners will compete for the Global Teacher Prize

Tirana, 9 October 2018 – Today, Albanian Coalition for Education (ACE), Child Rights Centre Albania (CRCA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, announced the winners of the National Teachers Prize 2018.   Mrs. Liljana Luani, is the winner of NTP and also winner of the category “Teacher of the year that advocates for the right to education”

The application process opened during May, and the teachers had the opportunity to compete in four categories: Teacher of the Year in Teaching, teacher of the Year in Innovation, Teacher of the Year that contribute in Academic Achievements and Teacher of the Year that Advocates for the Right to Education.

The jury composed of distinguished figures from the academic, public figures, journalists and the Ministry of Education evaluated the 12 finalists based in the criteria unified to the ones established by the Varkey Foundation such as: achievements demonstrable learning outcomes in the classroom, using innovative and effective teaching practices that are reproducible and affecting the quality of education, educating children to become global citizens by providing them with a value-based education Encouraging teachers to stay in the profession, developing their skills, and encouraging other teachers to join them in teaching profession



Minister of Education, Lindita Nikolla, praised the joint initiative "National Teacher Prize" as the most important competition for the evaluation of the teacher of the year. According to her, the participation of teachers in this contest is an added value for themselves, their colleagues and constitute a new standard for putting more emphasis on them and their mission.



The National Coordinator of Albanian Coalition for Education, Ms. Linda Pino, stressed the hard work that teachers do every day with their students and at the same time invited them to share their success by inspiring hundreds and thousands of teachers nationwide.

The winners of the National Teacher Prize divided in the categories are:

  • Mrs. Liljana Luani, Winner of the National Teacher Prize 2018 and winner of the category “Teacher of the Year that advocates for the right to education”
  • Mrs. Erviola Konomi, Winner of the category “ Teacher of the Year in Innovation”
  • Mr. Klodian Zaka winner of the category “Teacher of the year that contributes in children’s academic achievements”
  • Mrs. Valbona Shkëmbi, winner of the category “Teacher of the Year in Teaching”

The winners of the National teacher Prize have applied and will compete with thousands of other teachers that participate in the Global Teacher Prize.

Global Teacher Prize, who has been evaluate by the media as "Nobel Prize in Teaching”, is an initiative taken by the Varkey Foundation, which assesses the teaching profession and reveals thousands of teachers’ stories who have contributed to the transformation of children and youth lives. Global Teacher Prize expresses gratitude for the work that millions of teachers do across the globe.
