Members Of Albanian Parliament Meet With Children To Discuss About Education

Tirana, 24 April 2013-The Albanian Coalition for Child Education-ACE organised an Open Forum with politicians and pupils, at the “Gjergj Fishta” School in Tirana. This event is part of the Global Campaign for Education, where ACE joins the efforts of thousands of people worldwide to mark the right of every child to have a qualified teacher and better education.

In the meeting two members of the Albanian Parliament, Ms. Mesila Doda and Mrs. Eglantina Gjermeni, the well-known Albanian artist, Ms. Hyeda El Sayed and CRCA Director, Mr. Altin Hazizaj, jointed pupils of the School “Gjergj Fishta” in Tiranë, to discuss about education. The meeting facilitated by local organisation SHKEJ, was attended also by representatives of the Education Department of Tirana, teachers, parents and representatives of civil society. This event brought politicians and children closer together in terms of the exchange of ideas and concerns about education and opportunities to guarantee the rights of child to education.

The MP’s deputies expressed their opinions and perspectives on education by answering to the questions posed by children. The questions were focused on sharing of personal experiences from the MPs on teachers and teaching, evaluation of the current situation of the teachers, the need for change and improvement in physical and human capacities of the school. The event was followed with great interest by children, parents and members of the community organizations working for children, including members of the Albanian Coalition for Child Education.

During the Global Action Week 2013 the organizations that work for children and teachers unions from across the world address the governments and politicians under the slogan "Every Child Need a Qualified Teacher". The purpose of the Global Campaign in Albania is to raise awareness of the Albanian Government, politicians and the public about problems of education that affect children, teacher training, improving the status of teachers, increase the standards of teaching, teaching infrastructure etc..

During this week the Albanian Coalition for Child Education is organising a series of advocacy activities in order to sensitize the public and parliamentarians in particular, to be closer to the needs and priorities of teachers and children.
